A set of resin landing gear covers for the American Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale from Quickboost. It is not an airplane model, but precisely cast detail parts that replace the thicker or less well rendered covers from the base kit with thinner and more faithful castings.
The F4F-4 was the most widespread version of the Wildcat, a US Navy carrier fighter with distinctive narrow landing gear that was retracted by hand into the sides of the fuselage. In reality the covers and doors of the landing gear bays have thin edges and internal pressings; from an injection mold they tend to be thick-walled and flat. The resin replacements are more slender, have a more faithful inner face and improve the look of the extended landing gear.
Resin parts call for more careful preparation: wash them free of mold release residue in lukewarm soapy water, separate them carefully from the casting block and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; protect your airways when sanding. Paint the inner face of the covers to match the bay, bring out the edges with a dry brush and suggest any dust deposit with pigment.
The part is supplied as a resin accessory, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
