A resin detail set from the Czech maker Aires in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a faithful replacement for the exhaust nozzles of both engines, rendered in the open (spread) position as they look on a parked aircraft. The castings carry finely executed nozzle petals and an inner structure that injection-molded plastic cannot offer in this scale.
The F/A-18C Hornet is an American single-seat carrier fighter powered by two turbofans. The variable exhaust nozzles change their diameter with the regime; on the ground they are usually spread. Faithful nozzles are among the features that noticeably enliven a model.
Wash the resin parts to remove mold release residue, cut off the casting blocks and clean them up with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Metallic shades, toning and fine washes will support the metallic and heat-stressed look of the nozzles.
