A plastic kit of the Japanese fighter Kawasaki Ki-61-I Tei in 1:72 scale. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Kawasaki Ki-61 was a Japanese fighter of the Second World War and among the home-built machines it was one of the exceptions: instead of the usual radial power plant it had a liquid-cooled inverted V12 derived from a German design. That engine gave it a slender pointed nose, because of which Allied pilots at first mistook it for European types. The I Tei form was a late variant with a lengthened fuselage and with a heavier armament housed in the forward fuselage.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, which is the most widespread scale for aircraft models and gives the finished piece a reasonable place in a display case. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The part count, the range of decals and the choice of color schemes are given in the instructions from the manufacturer.
Start with the cockpit, because once the fuselage is glued you cannot get into it any more. Dry-fit the parts before gluing and sand down the traces of production. Thin the trailing edges of the wing and the tail surfaces carefully, because in a small scale their thickness is the most conspicuous thing. Use a glue for plastic models in small amounts and apply the paint in thin coats so that the engraved lines stay legible. Glue the canopy glazing on last and protect it with masking tape.
The kit will please anyone interested in Japanese aviation as well as the modeler who collects fighter aircraft in a single scale. Unless stated otherwise, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package.
