National insignia masks for the Lightning F. Mk.6 in 1:72 scale from the Dead Design brand. Instead of a decal the insignia is sprayed, so it has no carrier film and cannot silver.

A masking set of the Dead Design brand for spraying the national insignia onto a model of the British interceptor Lightning F. Mk.6 in 1:72 scale. It is not a set of cabin masks - it is worked with on the skin of the airframe, not on the clear part.
A decal is always a thin extra layer that lies on a model. When the base is not perfectly smooth and glossy, air stays under the decal and the edge clouds over into silver - modelers know it as silvering and on a dark finish it shows the most. A sprayed insignia does not have this problem at all, because it is paint like any other: it has no carrier film, no edge and it cannot peel off. On top of that it holds just as well on a flat and on an intricate surface, where a decal is always a risk.
The work is layered and calls for patience. The mask is stuck onto the finished finish, the appropriate color is sprayed, and only then the work goes on with the next element of the insignia. Apply the paint in thin coats, so that no ridge forms at the edge, which after unmasking could be felt and seen. If the insignia contains a light element on a dark base, reckon on more coats or a white base being needed, otherwise the shade will darken.
The Lightning F. Mk.6 was a version of the British supersonic interceptor with the characteristic pair of engines placed one above the other and a strongly swept wing. The machine was intended for rapid action against intruders into the airspace.
