A short-run injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer UM (Unimodel). The real subject is the Sherman VC Firefly, the British adaptation of the American Sherman medium tank, into whose turret the powerful 17-pounder anti-tank gun was fitted. The package contains molded plastic with link-and-length tracks and photo-etched extras. The long barrel and the modified turret make the Firefly one of the most distinctive Shermans.
The Firefly came about as an answer to the heavily armored German tanks, which the ordinary 75 mm guns of the Shermans could counter only with difficulty. The British therefore built a 17-pounder gun with high penetration into the turret; the VC version is based on the M4A4 chassis with its lengthened hull. Its recognition features are the very long barrel, the counterweight at the rear of the turret and the relocated radio set. The Firefly made a marked contribution from the Normandy landings to the end of the war.
Assemble and fine-tune the running gear and the link-and-length tracks before closing up the hull. Clean the flash off the short-run parts; glue the plastic with thin cement and the photo-etch with cyanoacrylate. Align the long barrel while gluing, so that it does not end up bent. After the base olive paint, apply a wash into the detail and pigments for dust and mud on the running gear; highlight the edges and the walking surfaces gently.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
