A resin detailing set in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Aires. It replaces the plastic exhaust nozzles with castings that have a thin wall, well-drawn petals and an inner structure. The set is not a kit of the aircraft, it is an accessory to a model of the F-15E, which you have to own separately.
Why change the nozzles
On a twin-engine aircraft the nozzles are a prominent feature of the tail, and in a small scale it is on them that the simplification of the mold shows most. The plastic part tends to be split into halves with a parting line inside the duct and with a thick edge. A resin casting has a considerably thinner edge and sharper petals, so the tail of the model comes across faithfully even from close up.
The McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle is a two-seat twin-engine multirole aircraft derived from the F-15 fighter. It carries jet engines with afterburners and is equipped for action against ground targets and in reduced visibility as well. On this type the nozzles differ according to the power plant used, which shows on a model in the shape of the petals.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that the mold release agent is removed from the surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface with a file and sanding paper wet, always with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue, cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the nozzles in metallic shades on a smooth base and leave them until the end of the build. Apply the metallic paint last; it is harder to overspray and to mask. Grade the shades toward the mouth and emphasize them with a fine wash, so that the petals stand out. Stir paint with a metallic pigment thoroughly before use.
This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of the aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
