The real subject

The MiG-31 is a heavy interceptor with a crew of two seated one behind the other: the pilot in front and the weapon systems operator behind him. The BM designation belongs to the upgraded version. The model therefore has two cockpits with different equipment, which makes the interior a noticeable part of the work, even in 1:72 scale.

What the set contains

The set is a colored three-dimensional cockpit interior in 1:72 scale. The parts are printed on decal backing paper and are applied the wet way: cut the part out, soak it for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water and slide it off the paper into place. It has no adhesive layer of its own, so it holds on a surface coated with gloss varnish. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer. The range of parts and their placement are given in the manufacturer's instructions.

Building and painting tips

Spray the surface beforehand, let it dry thoroughly and coat it with a gloss varnish such as Future or Tamiya X-22. Slide the soaked part into place, blot off the excess water and press it down with a soft wooden stick from the center outward so that no air stays under it. With a two-seat cockpit, sort the parts in advance according to where they belong; the front and rear stations differ and a mix-up cannot be put right once the fuselage is glued together. Choose a flat varnish for the final coat and apply it thinly.

Who it is for

The set is for builders who want to equip the cockpits without hand painting tiny instruments, and above all for models built with the canopies open, where you can see inside. The package contains the interior set only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
