A vacuum-formed clear cabin cover for a model of the Petlyakov Pe-2 aircraft in 1:72 scale. A replacement for the part from a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Petlyakov Pe-2 is a Soviet twin-engine bomber of the Second World War, also used for dive attacks. Over the forward part of the fuselage it has a long glazed cover, which is one of the most conspicuous features of the whole machine. That cover decides how a model looks, because the inside is visible through it.
The set is a cover vacuum-formed from thin clear film. Compared with the part from a kit it is substantially thinner, so the frames look finer and an open cabin looks more convincing. That thinness is also a demand on the work: the part is pliable and scratches easily, so handle it by the edges and lay it down on a soft surface.
Cut the part out with a margin of a few millimeters and only then sand it to the outline. That goes best on abrasive paper laid on a flat board, with short strokes and with the fit tried as you go. Glue it with a product meant for clear parts; ordinary super glue will fog a clear surface. Mask the frames before spraying, not once the paint has dried. Small scratches can be evened out by polishing at the end, but deeper ones cannot.
The set is for builders who want to build a Pe-2 model in 1:72 scale with an open or a more see-through cabin, and for anyone whose original part has been damaged. It calls for a little patience in the trimming. The package holds the clear part only, unless stated otherwise; the model, the paints and the glue are not included.
