About product

Rotachute Mk.III 1:72 — a FLY kit

This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from FLY represents the experimental single-man Rotachute rotor glider. It is a short-run model complemented by fine photo-etched parts. Given the very small dimensions of the real craft, the kit is a tiny one and is better suited to more experienced modelers.

The real subject

The Rotachute was a British experimental device of the Second World War that made use of the principle of rotor autorotation. It had no engine of its own and was to serve as a more steerable alternative to a parachute for carrying one soldier. Its construction was very simple and light.

Building and painting tips

With short-run models, reckon on cleaning flash off the parts and on dry-fitting. Separate the fine photo-etched parts with a sharp knife and glue them with super glue. Join the small plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting, and paint the thin elements carefully.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of unconventional aircraft subjects
  • Modelers with experience of short-run kits
  • Anyone interested in the history of rotorcraft in 1:72 scale
  • Builders who will appreciate working with photo-etched parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
