A diorama base in 1:72 scale whose subject is a damaged house. The motif refers to an Italian setting, that is to southern buildings. A ruin is a rewarding subject for a diorama: a broken wall allows a look inside, a heap of rubble fills an otherwise empty corner of the scene and the damage itself tells what happened in the place, without your having to add further figures.
The base is finished, so you do not have to model the terrain or build the masonry from nothing; the work starts straight at the painting.
Clean and degrease the surface and sand the small unevenness down. Spray a base that evens out how much the surface absorbs, and only then paint. Spray the plaster with several close tones, so that the area does not act as a uniform board. Where masonry is rendered under the fallen plaster, give it a warmer tone, so that it is set apart from the plaster. A glaze will flow into the joints and the hollows and bring them out, and a dry brush will then draw out the edges and the breaks. Work the rubble at the foot of the walls in with pigment and fine sand and let it pass smoothly into the terrain, so that there is no sharp boundary between them. In a small scale it is better to overdo the contrasts slightly, or the detail will be lost at a distance.
For modelers who want to put a 1:72 model into a setting and do not want to build the ruin themselves. The model, the figures, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
