The kit is short-run: the parts are good in shape but have no locating pins and the mating surfaces have to be adjusted. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Vickers Viking was a British twin-engine transport aircraft built shortly after the Second World War with the aim of restoring civil air transport quickly. The designers started from a proven bomber type from the same works, took over its wing and tail surfaces and added a new fuselage with a cabin for passengers. Power came from two Bristol Hercules radial engines, and the landing gear was of the tailwheel type with retractable main wheels. The Viking became one of the pillars of postwar British scheduled transport and in later years spread to smaller carriers as well. The designation 1A belongs to the early production batch.
A civil transport aircraft in 1:72 is above all a school of surfaces. The fuselage has long smooth sides on which every ripple left by sanding will stand out, so use little filler, sand gradually through three or four grits and check the surface as you go under primer. The cabin windows are small and tend to be a source of fogging: glue them with canopy glue or with gloss clear varnish and paint the interior behind them dark, so that the model does not look see-through. Before gluing the fuselage together, test the balance and add weight to the nose. An airline scheme stands on sharp color boundaries and straight lines: use narrow cut masking tape for the dividing lines and fill the wide areas with paper. Always let the transitions between bare metal and paint dry before masking again. Decals with long lettering on a curved fuselage need a decal softener and patience so that they settle without wrinkles.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
