A photo-etched detailing set in 1:72 scale for a model of the British Vosper motor torpedo boat. An accessory for a kit; the model itself is not part of it.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation M.T.B. stands for motor torpedo boat. The small fast boats built by the Vosper yard were among the typical units of the British coastal forces in the Second World War: they attacked at night, relied on speed and carried torpedoes and light anti-aircraft armament. On a model it is exactly this small deck equipment that decides the final impression.
These are photo-etched parts, that is thin flat pieces etched to an exact shape. Photo-etch manages thicknesses that cannot be reached in a mold, and is therefore used where a detail is meant to look as thin as possible. The set is an accessory for a particular kit, not a standalone model. Which parts replace the original plastic ones and which are added is set out in the manufacturer's instructions, so follow them when choosing a suitable kit as well.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with scissors, which will twist them. Make the folds in a bender or between two steel rulers so that the edge comes out crisp. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount, and on larger parts a thicker version of the glue helps, as it gives time to line things up. Before painting, degrease the parts and coat them with a base color, otherwise paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
The set is for a modeler who wants to go beyond the contents of the box and is not afraid of fine handwork. Unless stated otherwise, the model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
