An airbrush stencil from the manufacturer 77propeller in a four in one version. It is not a paint, a decal or a single-use masking film — it is a reusable stencil that you hold over the surface while spraying and through whose cutouts you apply the paint. That creates irregular stains and areas with a soft edge, which are hard to draw freehand and can never be repeated evenly. Its use is wide: stains from operating fluids, uneven fading of the finish, transitions between camouflage patches and hints of dirt on horizontal surfaces.

Use

• thin the paint more than for ordinary spraying and lower the pressure, otherwise it will blow under the stencil and the edge will bleed
• the distance of the stencil from the surface sets the sharpness of the edge: laid flat against it, it gives a sharp edge; lifted a few millimeters, a soft transition
• spray perpendicular and in several light coats; one thick coat creates a pronounced ridge at the edge
• wipe the stencil down every time you set it aside, as dried paint on the edge of the cutout ruins every subsequent impression
• rotate and shift the stencil, so that the same shape does not obviously repeat across the area — regularity is what gives a painted stain away

Who it is for

It suits modelers who spray with an airbrush and want to work with surface irregularities beyond the basic painting. It comes into its own on vehicles, aircraft and on dioramas and bases. Because the stencil is reusable, it is worth trying it out first on a test card to get a feel for how the edge behaves at different distances and pressures.
