An injection-molded plastic kit of the American S-64E Skycrane heavy helicopter in the large 1:35 scale from the manufacturer ICM. The machine, with its characteristic skeletal structure and no cargo hold, is enormous as a model as well - once finished it is a very sizable piece with a long fuselage and a large rotor span. A more demanding kit for more advanced modelers.
The S-64 Skycrane is the civil version of the military Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe heavy helicopter. It is a so-called flying crane - a machine without a conventional fuselage, whose bare load-bearing structure and sling system serve to carry heavy loads suspended beneath the helicopter. The S-64E version is used for fighting forest fires (with an external water tank), for logging, for erection and construction work and for carrying bulky loads. The cockpit allows the load to be watched even while backing up.
The open framework means that a great many details are visible - assemble and paint the landing gear, the engines and the beams with care. Build the rotor head and the landing gear carefully so that the angles are right. Bond the extensive cockpit glazing with cement for clear parts and mask it. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic, apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The striking color scheme (often yellow and red civil finishes) will be brought to life by decals applied over a gloss clear coat and sealed with an overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
