A 1:48 kit of the British Phantom FG.1 from Airfix. A completely new mold with three marking options for Fleet Air Arm aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the British Phantom version in 1:48 scale from Airfix. It is a completely new mold, which the manufacturer developed from digital scans of a surviving aircraft and from extensive photographic documentation. The box offers three marking options for naval aircraft.
The British Phantoms differed from the American ones more deeply than they look at first glance. At the customer's request they received Rolls-Royce Spey engines, which called for enlarged air intakes and a reworked rear fuselage. The aircraft served with the Royal Navy and flew from the deck of the carrier Ark Royal; after she was withdrawn, the machines passed to the Royal Air Force, where they held air defense duties for years more.
The kit is rated as one of the more demanding ones, so count on careful dry-fitting of the fuselage and the intakes. It pays to start from the cockpit, which is visible through the glazing, and to weight the nose gear so the model does not sit back on its tail. Lay down a gloss clear coat before the decals and a matte one after them. The gray-blue naval camouflage comes alive when the individual panels are shifted slightly in tone.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
