The Ju 88 S series came about at the moment when German bombers began to meet an ever stronger defense over Britain. The answer was to bet on speed: the machine received a smoothly glazed nose without the ventral gondola, simplified equipment and limited defensive armament. The S-1 version was powered by BMW 801 radial engines, and for a short-term increase in performance at high altitudes it had the GM-1 system, which injected nitrous oxide into the engines.
A model of the Ju 88 S-1 in 1:72 scale. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and the parts have to be cleaned up, glued and varnished. The characteristic feature of the version is exactly that clean glazed nose, which differs at a glance from the ordinary bomber Ju 88s.
The glazing of the nose on this type is a large area through which the inside is visible. Finish the interior of the cockpit and close it only after checking that no dust has been left in it. Mask the canopy framing before spraying. Try the engine nacelles and the way they join the wing dry, as this is where a seam to be filled most often appears on twin-engined models.
The set is for a modeler who builds German aircraft of the Second World War and wants the fast variant alongside the classic bomber. The build matches an ordinary twin-engined aircraft in this scale, and only the clean handling of the glazing and the exact seating of the nacelles are more demanding.
Paints, glue and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
