Liche Purple lies in the maker's numbering exactly on the border between the wine red and the blue tones, which matches a middle purple with no evident leaning to one side or the other. In building figures it is a color with a very clear casting: the undead, necromancers, cultists, magical discharges and the heraldry of the high nobility, because purple dye was historically the most costly and appeared in coats of arms only exceptionally.
Purple pigment has one tricky property. Over a dark base it sinks almost into black and over a white one it lightens into lilac, so the resulting impression is determined by the base more than with other colors. The surest route is a gray base of middle value, over which the tone comes out exactly as it looks in the bottle.
An interesting effect arises when the purple is used only as a glaze over metal surfaces. A silver base under a thin purple layer takes on the cast of hardened steel and armor stops looking like bare sheet. The same glaze can be used to darken the inside of a hood or the hollow of an eye socket without a dead black hole without color arising there. It only takes patience: a glaze is built by repeating very thin layers, never with one thick stroke.
