Zima Blue closes the blue group from the top: it is the brightest and coldest tone you will find in this part of the range, with a shift toward azure and turquoise. While the preceding blues describe cloth and water, this one describes light. It is used on energy weapons, plasma discharges, glowing screens, holographic projections, the eyes of robots and everything that is to act as an active source of radiance on a model.
For a glowing feature to work, painting it is not enough. It has to spread outward. The technique is simple and effective: around the glowing place several progressively weaker glazes of the same shade are laid into the surrounding surface, and that exclusively in the direction the light would really fall. The core itself is then touched with white.
Light and bright shades generally cover worse than dark ones, because they contain less absorbing pigment. It therefore pays to put a white or very light gray under the area. Over a dark base the shade would lose its glow, which is the worst possible loss for a paint whose only job is to shine. Two thin layers over a light base give a result that one thick layer over black does not reach.
