A light rust wash ready for immediate use, supplied in a 15 ml bottle with a dispensing dropper cap. Its light, orange-brown tone corresponds to fresh, young rust — the kind that appears on worn edges, around lifted paint, on exhausts, tie-down eyes, chains, tools and unprotected metal parts. It is not a kit — it is modeling chemistry for weathering.

Rust is not a single color

This is the most common mistake beginners make: take one rust shade and smear it over everything. Real rust is layered — from light, almost orange fresh corrosion to dark, brown-violet old rust that has already eaten into the material. Realism comes exactly from that layering of light and dark rust tones: a dark core in the depths, lighter edges on the protrusions, random transitions. This wash represents the light end of that scale. On its own it gives a model fresh rusty undertones and a hint of wear; combined with darker rust tones it makes rust that can be believed.

An acrylic wash — the practical consequences

Most washes are enamel and are wiped off with mineral spirits. This one is acrylic and wipes off with water, or with the acrylic thinner from the same manufacturer. That is why it has no odor, is gentler and can be used in a living room. But watch two things: once dry it wipes off less easily than an enamel wash, so remove the excess before it sets; and never put it over an acrylic coat that has not cured — it would dissolve it and you would strip the paint. Let the base cure properly and coat it with gloss varnish; on a gloss surface the wash flows better and stays under control.

Use step by step

• Stir the contents of the bottle thoroughly by shaking before work.
• Apply it with a brush where it is wanted — on worn edges, seams, exhausts and damaged paint.
• Let it act briefly so that the shade settles.
• Wipe the excess off with a damp brush or cloth and feather it out.
• Build the rust up in layers and complete it with darker rust tones.
