CHIPPING COLOR is a pencil from the modeling range of weathering pencils from AK interactive, intended directly for chipping. The lead is strongly pigmented, semi-waxy and soluble in water: you draw with it dry and the mark can be softened or blended with a damp brush. It is a modeling aid for weathering, not a kit — nothing is built from it; it is used to finish an already painted model.
Chipping is flaked paint revealing the metal or the primer underneath. In reality it does not appear at random: it turns up where a vehicle is rubbed and handled — on sharp edges, around hatches and filler caps, on walkways, around grab handles, grips and steps, at the edges of doors and hatches where the crew climbs in and out. The key rule is: chipping is done small and deliberately. Overdone chipping scattered everywhere does not look like wear but like a disease on the model. The pencil is ideal for that precisely because it draws exactly where you want — the size and shape of every chip is fully under your control, unlike with a sponge or a brush.
For modelers who want chipping that is precise, fine and removable. Nothing has to be mixed or prepared on a palette, there is no risk of a blot across the whole side of a model — and if a chip does not come out right, as long as it is not yet sealed it is enough to blend it away with water. That makes it the easiest way to start with chipping without risking a ruined model.
Keep out of the reach of children. Do not inhale the dust from the pencil lead when sharpening it.
