A wide head with a straight slot, size 0.5 mm

A small imitation of fasteners for models. The head is low and markedly wider than the shank, so on a real machine it spreads the pressure into the sheet metal, and in its face it has a straight slot for a flat screwdriver. The size given in the name is 0.5 mm.

Field of use

Screws with a straight slot come across as older and more civilian than internal drives, so they suit models of classic motorcycles, vintage machinery and workshop equipment for dioramas. A wide head is used where the screw goes into thin sheet metal or into a soft material: on side covers, on sheet-metal boxes, on the mounting of fenders or on data plates.

Installation tips

• Think the orientation of the slots over: aligned in one direction they look like a carefully assembled machine, turned at random like one in everyday use.
• Pick the elements up with fine-jawed tweezers and fit them one at a time over a pad with a raised rim.
• Fit them after the seams have been sanded and the base coat sprayed, otherwise the slot will disappear under the paint.
• Check the suitable glue in the manufacturer's instructions; at this size an amount on the tip of a needle is enough.
