Chibi-Maru Fleet Suzutsuki is a cute shortened kit of the Japanese anti-aircraft destroyer Suzutsuki from Fujimi. This is not a scale model — the ship is deliberately distorted into a small, friendly form.
Responsibility details are not available.
The destroyer Suzutsuki as rendered by the Chibi-Maru Fleet line of the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. The miniature with its shortened hull and enlarged characteristic features is not a scale model — it is a deliberately cute, distorted form of the real ship. The result of a quick build is a likeable decoration that looks good on its own and in a growing fleet of other ships of the line.
Suzutsuki belonged to the Akizuki-class destroyers, built for the anti-aircraft protection of groups and armed with quick-firing multi-purpose 100 mm guns. The ship became known for her exceptional toughness: during the war she survived heavy damage to the bow several times. While escorting the battleship Yamato in April 1945 an air strike tore her bow away, yet the crew managed to bring the ship back into port by steaming stern first. Suzutsuki thus went down as one of the toughest Japanese destroyers of the war.
The build is undemanding and quick. Paint the hull in the gray shade of the Imperial Japanese Navy and bring out the turrets and the superstructures with a fine dark wash. Anyone who wants can suggest wear with light drybrushing in a pale gray. For younger builders we recommend the help of an adult because of the work with glue.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
