Paint Forge Curve 2 Stencils L — a universal masking stencil

Curve 2 Stencils is a universal stencil with curved cutouts that Paint Forge lists as the second variant of the arc pattern alongside the basic Curve range. You lay the sheet on an already painted surface and apply paint through the cutout; it is not a mask cut for a particular kit but a reusable aid for curves that cannot be reliably repeated freehand or with tape.

The letter L in the name marks the larger of the pair of sheets that the brand offers for this pattern; the smaller sheet carries the letter M in its name. You will make use of the larger format on the long areas of a fuselage, a bed or a body, where a curve from a small sheet would have to be extended.

How the stencil is used

• Let the base coat dry out completely — in fresh paint the sheet will leave an imprint.
• Press the edge of the arc down along its whole length; a gap under the edge means overspray.
• You get a sharp edge from a perpendicular pass of several thin coats with the stencil pressed down.
• A soft transition, typical of camouflage, appears when you lift the sheet slightly and spray from a greater distance.
• Lift it off while damp and clean it at once, so that the edges of the cutouts stay sharp.
