Cyan - an Abteilung 502 acrylic paint

Cyan is a pure azure blue from the acrylic line of the Abteilung 502 brand. It is an acrylic, that is a water-thinnable paint, and with this brand that is an essential qualification, because Abteilung 502 is known above all for oil paints and makes a shade of the same name there too. The acrylic and the oil version have a different chemistry, a different thinner and cannot be mixed with each other.

Use

• Mixing your own blue and green tones: cyan is one of the basic mixing colors from which, together with yellow and magenta, a palette of your own can be built.
• A saturated blue on modern equipment, sporting and civilian schemes, advertising areas.
• Glazes and toning: thin it and apply in thin translucent coats over the base.
• Cool accents in shadows, where a warm blue looks too soft.

How to work with the paint

With a brush it is applied straight from the container; for an airbrush it has to be thinned with water or an acrylic thinner of the same chemistry, as unthinned acrylic clogs an airbrush. Saturated pure shades as a rule have lower coverage than earth colors, so count on more thin coats being needed over a dark base, or on a light base. The tools are washed out with water after work, as long as the paint has not dried.
