Dry Ground - texture paste from AK interactive, 100 ml

A texture compound from the Wargame Terrains range in a 100 ml package, ready to apply straight away. Once dry it gives the surface of parched, packed earth, the exact opposite of the muddy variants of the same range. It suits dry plains, dusty roads and parched areas under figures and on larger diorama bases alike.

Use

• Stir the contents first, as the paste settles in the tub.
• On a large area, apply it with a spatula and then tap it lightly with the bristles of a brush; that gives a naturally irregular surface.
• Dry ground looks convincing when the layer is thinner at the edges and coarser where dust gathers.
• Bootprints, wheel ruts, small stones and dry stalks can be pressed into the damp paste.
• Let it dry through thoroughly and only then tone it; a dried area takes a wash and drybrushing.
• Wash tools and any overspill with water immediately after work.

When to reach for the dry variant

Dry ground suits scenes from warm, dusty regions, field tracks at the end of summer and a neutral base that does not compete with the figure. Because it has none of the sheen of a wet surface, pigments and fine shading show well on it; wet effects are better handled with the matching variant of the same range.
