HEKI Textured Grass Mat, Dark Green, 19x30 cm

A grass mat from the German maker HEKI measuring one hundred and ninety by three hundred millimeters in a dark green finish. The growth is textured, that is, it is not the same height or density across the whole area but alternates denser clumps with thinned-out patches. The dark color adds a second dimension: the area looks damper and deeper, which is useful where it should show that the terrain lies in shade or by water.

• areas in the shade of buildings, walls and trees
• north-facing slopes and the feet of embankments
• varied grassy areas in the foreground of a scene
• adding darker sections to a uniform mat

How to work with the mat

Apply spray adhesive to a new base and press the mat down; on an area already grassed the fibers hold even without glue. With a textured mat, choose which part goes where: denser sections belong in hollows and by obstacles, thinned-out patches on crests and by lanes. Do not use the dark material over a whole area, but combine it with a paler variant and leave the transition frayed.

For layout and diorama builders who work with light and shade, and for modelers who are bothered by the uniformity of ordinary grass mats. This is modeling material, not a toy. The manufacturer marks its scenery products as unsuitable for children under fifteen.
