The reconnaissance version is represented by 1:144 Supermarine Spitfire PR Mk.I (Hangar Edition) with decals for two RAF photographic machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
What you get is one aircraft, instructions printed in color and decals for a pair of reconnaissance Spitfires. With this package Beacon Models covers a branch of the type that the ordinary fighter boxings touch only in passing, and which is among the most interesting chapters of its service.
Reconnaissance Spitfires were created by converting production airframes. Cameras fitted into the fuselage, fuel was added in the wing and most versions lost their armament, so that the machine could climb and fly high out of range. The Type G, later redesignated PR Mk.VII, was an exception: it worked at low altitude and kept its machine guns, because it had to be able to defend itself over the target.
One scheme belongs to the machine X4784 of No. 140 Squadron RAF from Benson in April 1942, flown by Pilot Officer Charles Bertram Barber. The other covers P9328 of No. 1416 (Army Cooperation) Flight from Hendon in July 1941.
The landing gear can be glued in either position, and the set holds a spinner without propeller blades for an in-flight display. The characteristic single-color finishes of reconnaissance machines forgive little, so spray in thin coats and fine-tune the transitions with an airbrush rather than a brush.
The model comes as a set of unpainted parts; finishes and glue you obtain separately.
