A set of replacement landing gear wheels for a model of the Boeing 777-300 transport aircraft in 1:144 scale. It is aimed at the modeler who is bothered by exactly this part on a finished aircraft: the landing gear stands at eye level in a display case and is noticed by everyone who bends down to the model.

The real subject

The Boeing 777-300 is the stretched version of the Boeing 777 twin-engined long-haul transport aircraft. On this type the main landing gear has a bogie with six wheels on each leg, and the nose leg carries two wheels. The numerous main landing gear therefore makes the wheels a striking element that does not disappear even in a small scale.

Building and painting

• The parts are not of polystyrene; they are joined with super glue, and ordinary cement for polystyrene has no effect on them.
• Before painting, wash them in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent and let them dry thoroughly, otherwise the paint will not hold.
• Cut the surplus material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the rest down with fine abrasive paper.
• Tires look better in dark gray than in pure black: a black area in a small scale swallows the shape and the wheel turns into a flat blot.
• Paint the wheel rims separately or set them apart by masking, and fit the wheels only at the end.
