Olive number two from the Gunze Acrysion acrylic range. A muted green-brown tone for American ground vehicles and their equipment.
Responsibility details are not available.
Green-brown olive was the service color of the US Army for decades. Tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery tractors, trucks and the boxes and jerrycans loaded on the fenders all wore it. That is precisely why the range provides more than one olive tone, and this one is the second of them.
The difference between the two olives is subtle, but you will see it on a model: one is greener, the other shifted toward brown and more matte. The choice depends on which period and which manufacturer you are building, and also on how long the machine was meant to serve in the sun. Anyone building a whole convoy can alternate the two tones between vehicles so that the column does not look like one spray from one airbrush.
The paint is water-thinnable and aimed at spraying with an airbrush; the consistency is adjusted with water or with the thinner marked Acrysion Thinner. Cups and nozzles are cleaned with Acrysion Tool Cleaner. As with every matte paint, the contents have to be stirred well before spraying, otherwise the shade comes out lighter than it is on the color chart.
Gloss has a great influence on the final impression. A freshly painted machine had its olive semi-matte; after a few weeks in the field all that was left of it was a dusty, almost chalky surface. That can be met halfway with a final matte varnish and a light dust filter over the horizontal surfaces.
