An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet airliner Ilyushin Il-86 in 1:144 scale from Zvezda. It is a sizeable model of a wide-body aircraft; the assembled piece measures roughly 42 centimeters long, so count on enough room in the display case. The box contains the parts of the fuselage, the wings and the engines, the glazing and decals. Unlike the smaller snap-fit models, this kit is glued in the classic way.
The Ilyushin Il-86 was the first Soviet series-produced wide-body airliner. It flew in the middle of the 1970s and entered service in the 1980s, flying above all with Aeroflot on busy domestic and medium-haul routes. Its recognition features were the four underslung engines and the unusual built-in airstairs, which let passengers board directly from the apron without jet bridges.
On a large model, work in subassemblies and use thin cement for plastic. Sand the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges carefully so that the seams disappear under the varnish. For a civil aircraft a smooth gloss surface is the key: apply primer, polish the surfaces and spray with an airbrush. Apply the extensive airline decals over a gloss varnish and seal them so that they do not silver.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
