1:16 German Armoured Forces symbols - part 4

Symbols of the German armored forces in 1:16 scale – part 4

A set of decals with the military symbols used on the vehicles of the German armored forces in the Second World War. It is a modeling accessory, not a kit or a spare part. It is part 4 of a numbered line.

What the markings were for

Tactical symbols and recognition markings on fighting vehicles had a practical purpose. They told the branch of a unit and its posting apart and made vehicles easier to identify in a column on the march and in action. A modeler uses them today so that a model matches a particular vehicle from a particular period rather than a general idea. The set provides the designs needed for that, in sizes matching 1:16 scale.

How to work with the decals

• Prepare a gloss base, or an outline will be left along the edge of the film.
• Place the symbols according to period references for the particular vehicle.
• With large designs, settle the decal from the center toward the edges so that no air bubbles are left.
• A softener helps the film flow around rivets and sheet metal joints; seal the result with clear.

Who the set is for

The set is meant for builders of large vehicle models in 1:16 scale, static and radio-controlled alike. It will be appreciated by modelers who work from period photographs and need a wider choice of markings than the sheet enclosed with a kit offers. It is also usable for dioramas where the vehicle stands in the foreground and the markings are clearly legible from a distance.
