A light set for models of the Olympic and Britannic ocean liners in 1:200 scale from Trumpeter. It is not a ship model but an accessory for a kit you already own.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a ship kit but an accessory light set intended for large models of ocean liners in 1:200 scale from Trumpeter. It serves to light up the windows, the decks and the interior spaces of a finished model, which brings out its broken-up superstructure and its rows of observation decks. For building the hull itself you need to have the matching kit; the set does not replace it.
On large liner models, lighting is the most striking way to bring a model to life. Lit windows and promenade decks create the impression of a night crossing and emphasize the length of the hull, which is otherwise hard to appreciate in a display case. It is precisely in 1:200 scale that working with internal light makes the most sense, because the model is large enough for the wiring to be run without visible compromises.
The Olympic and the Britannic were sister ships of the same class of ocean liners, a class that also included the Titanic. The Olympic served on the regular Atlantic run for many years, while the Britannic was used as a hospital ship in the First World War and sank in the Mediterranean in 1916. Both ships have the characteristic silhouette with four funnels and long promenade decks.
Plan the run of the lighting before you close up the hull and the superstructures; once they are glued together, getting inside is difficult. It is a good idea to darken the inner walls so that light does not shine through the thin plastic where it should not be seen. Check the wiring dry as you go and fix it so that it does not press on the parts.
