This is not a model of the aircraft but a resin detail set — a replacement for the landing gear wheels of a Harrier model in 1:24 scale. In injection-molded kits the wheels tend to be split into halves, so once they are glued a seam is left right on the centerline of the tire and the tread is only suggested. A resin casting does away with that problem: the tire is in one piece, with a sharply defined tread and a fine relief on the hub. In the large 1:24 scale the difference is obvious at first glance — the wheels here are among the most prominent details of the whole model.
The Harrier is a single-engine combat aircraft of British origin with short takeoff and vertical landing, powered by one jet engine with four rotating nozzles. Its landing gear has an unusual arrangement with the main leg on the fuselage centerline, a nose leg and outrigger wheels at the wingtips. By its name the set covers the GR.1 and GR.3 versions of the land-based air arm, the American AV-8A and the naval FRS.1 and Sea Harrier.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with a little detergent — remains of the mold release agent tend to be on the surface, and paint does not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks away with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, so that the casting is not cracked. Sanding is best done wet and with respiratory protection. Glue the resin with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic has no effect on it. Before painting it pays to prime, to shade the tires dark gray rather than pure black and to dust them lightly with pigment.
