The set contains four castings of the American CBU-89 GATOR dispenser weapon. Resin captures the lengthwise split of the casing, the clamping bands and the shape of the tail section more clearly than plastic, and with four pieces the stores can be arranged symmetrically under both wing halves.
The GATOR does not belong among classic fragmentation weapons. The casing opens in flight and scatters a mixture of anti-armor and anti-personnel mines into the area, which then stay lying there and close off an approach route. The mines have a built-in self-destruct timer, so that they stop being dangerous once the set time has passed. The weapon served to close off mountain passes, airfields and movement routes quickly, and it was carried both by attack machines and by heavy bombers.
The casings were usually light with prominent color bands whose width and position differed with the filling. In this scale it pays to mask the bands with tape, because a line drawn by hand goes wavy on a cylindrical surface. First sand the casting on the contact surface so that it seats on the rack, and try it dry before you reach for the cyanoacrylate glue.
This item is separate armament to complement a kit, not an airplane model.
