The set brings an American medium-caliber aerial bomb in the form with a thermally protected casing and with the MAU-91 tail unit. The detail (4 pcs) is taken from the name of the item. The 1:32 scale allows the bosses of the mounting lugs, the parting line of the casing and the internal stiffeners of the fins to be brought out in a way smaller stores do not permit.

What the Mk.83 was in service

The Mk.83 belongs to the Mk 80 family of general-purpose bombs and in weight it lies between the smaller Mk.82 and the heavy Mk.84. It was carried by carrier attack machines of the US Navy and the Marine Corps, from Corsair IIs through Intruders to the later Hornets. The conical MAU-91 tail unit makes it a low-drag load meant for release from a safe altitude, when the fall does not have to be retarded.

The thermally protected casing and how to paint it

An insulating layer against fire on deck changes the look of the weapon: a smooth finish is replaced by a flatter, finely grained surface. Unify the base with a primer, therefore, apply the base shade with an airbrush and bring the texture out with a dry brush one tone lighter. Draw the colored marking bands only at the very end.
