The Spitfire Mk.Ia in 1:32 scale from Kotare captures the late production form of the aircraft from the period of the Battle of Britain.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in the large 1:32 scale. The boxing is aimed at the late production run of the Mk.Ia version, that is the form in which the aircraft went into action during the Battle of Britain. Kotare comes from New Zealand and its Spitfire range is divided precisely by production period, so that the different airframe forms do not get mixed into one box.
The Spitfire Mk.I was a single-seat fighter with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and eight 7.7 mm machine guns spread through the wings. During 1940 it went through a series of changes: the two-blade fixed-pitch propeller gave way to a three-blade variable-pitch unit, armor was added and the front section of the canopy was revised. It is exactly these differences that separate early from late production, which is why parts cannot be swapped between models of the two periods.
The large scale forgives fewer mistakes in the seams, but it does let you work the cockpit up properly. Finish and paint the framework of the pilot's compartment before you close up the fuselage. The camouflage transitions of the British scheme are sprayed with thinned paint at lower pressure so they stay soft. An intermediate gloss clear coat helps under the decals, and leave the undersurfaces until last so they are not marked during handling.
The kit is sold unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not in the box, unless stated otherwise.
