It holds the front and rear travel lock (rest) for the gun barrel for a model of the 7.5 cm Pak 40/4 self-propelled anti-tank gun built on the tracked Raupenschlepper Ost chassis. The lock secured the barrel during moves so that it was not jolted in its mounting, and fitting it gives the model the realistic look of a vehicle in travel order.
