About product

Kohlenkran, a coaling crane for a railroad diorama 1:35 (CMK)

This resin set from the Czech maker CMK brings the coaling crane (Kohlenkran) used on the German railroads during the Second World War, in 1:35 scale. It served to top up the coal in the tenders of steam locomotives. It is not a vehicle and not military equipment but a diorama element that completes the scene of a station or a depot.

What the set is for

The crane forms a striking vertical landmark in a diorama and gives context to steam locomotives, wagons and figures. The castings capture the structure of the mast, the jib and the detail of the mechanism.

Building and painting tips

  • Cut the parts off the casting blocks and wash the mold release off them.
  • Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
  • Paint the metal surfaces in dark shades of steel and add rust and coal dust.
  • Set the base into the terrain of the diorama and tune it to the surroundings.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of railroad and military dioramas in 1:35 scale.
  • More experienced modelers used to resin.
  • Anyone interested in the German railroad setting of the Second World War.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and terrain are not included in the package.
