About product

Marder I - 7.5cm PaK 40/1 auf Sd.Kfz.135 - a Zimi Model kit, 1:35 scale

An injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Zimi Model in 1:35 scale, capturing the German improvised tank destroyer Marder I (7.5cm PaK 40/1 auf Geschuetzwagen Lorraine Schlepper (f), Sd.Kfz.135). The kit is marked by a richly riveted chassis, thin walls of the fighting compartment and individual track links with an assembly jig. The exact number of parts and the exact package contents cannot be stated here with certainty - the instructions in the package are binding.

The real subject

The Marder I arose as an emergency answer to the shortage of anti-tank weapons: onto a captured French Lorraine artillery tractor the Germans mounted the powerful anti-tank gun 7.5 cm PaK 40 in an open superstructure with a light armored shield. The vehicle combined decent mobility with a gun able to destroy the tanks of its day, at the cost of a tall and only lightly protected silhouette. It was deployed above all on the Western and the Eastern Front. It is a typical example of the use of a captured chassis for a special task.

Building and painting tips

Assemble the individual track links with the help of the enclosed jig for correct shaping. Paint the open fighting compartment and the interior and bring them out before you fit the shield and the gun. Apply a primer and the base shade with an airbrush. The riveted chassis will come out well after a dark wash into the recesses and a lighter dry brush on the edges; put dust and mud pigments on the tracks and the underside.

Who the model is for

  • For modelers of German and of captured hardware of the Second World War
  • For anyone interested in improvised tank destroyers
  • For builders of dioramas with an open fighting compartment and a crew
  • For more advanced modelers in 1:35 scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
