The T-34 was a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, and its reputation rests on the combination of heavily sloped armor, wide tracks and good mobility across country. The version with the 76 mm gun is the older development branch of the type, before the later move to a larger turret with a three-man crew and a more powerful gun. The Model 1942 designation distinguishes the production standard in which the machine was simplified in many respects for series production.
On a model of a tank it shows most where sheet metal should really look like sheet metal. Fenders, covers, grilles and tool clamps come out of an injection mold necessarily thicker, because below a certain thickness a plastic part cannot be made. Photo-etched metal sheet has no such limit, and the edge of the part on the model is thinned to a measure that matches 1:35 scale. The set is worked for the T-34 in the 1942 standard.
The parts are held on the fret by thin tabs. Cut them with a sharp blade on a hard surface; twisting ripples the sheet. Make the bends in the marked groove over a straight edge or in a bending tool. They are bonded with super glue in a tiny amount. Wash the metal before painting, degrease it and lay a primer for metal surfaces over it, otherwise the finish flakes off during handling. On a tank it pays to bend the fenders or covers into a slightly irregular shape, because bent sheet looks more credible on a combat vehicle than a perfectly straight edge.
