Turned metal gun barrels for the battleship HMS Warspite in 1:350 scale - eight barrels of 15 inch caliber, eight of 6 inch and eight of 4 inch in one package.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal detail accessory to a model of the British battleship in 1:350 scale, not a kit. The package covers three calibers at once: eight barrels of 15 inch caliber for the four twin turrets, eight barrels of 6 inch caliber for the secondary battery and eight barrels of 4 inch caliber for the anti-aircraft armament. With a single purchase you thus replace practically the whole artillery of a model.
The difference is most visible on the heavy barrels. A fifteen inch barrel is long in this scale and in plastic it is molded in two halves, so that after gluing a lengthwise parting groove remains which has to be sanded away, and with it the circular cross section goes too. A turned part is cylindrical by its very nature, straight and with a finished bore. On the tiny four inch barrels it does away with the hopeless attempt to drill a muzzle that in scale is barely a tenth of a millimeter across.
Before you start, sort the parts by caliber into separate dishes; three sets of eight pieces are easily mixed up in one pile. Cut off the plastic barrels and open out the holes so that the shank slips in without pressure; metal is not pressed into plastic, as it cracks. Gel grade cyanoacrylate gives enough time to line up all the barrels of a turret in one plane. Degrease the metal before painting and apply a primer for metal. Admiralty Grey is laid on thinly, so that it does not flood the fine stepping of the muzzle; the final darkening of the muzzle is handled better by an oxidizing solution than by black paint.
The set is an accessory to a model, not a standalone kit. The ship model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
