A resin accessory for American tracked equipment in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer Elefant. These are steel wheels with a mud shield, of the kind carried by the vehicles of the M26, M46, M47 and M48A1 first series. It is not a vehicle model but separate wheels for improving the running gear or as a spare wheel stowed on the hull. The number of pieces in the package is stated on the box.
Resin castings come out of the mold covered with a thin film of release agent. You cannot feel it and you cannot see it, but paint will not hold on it. At first it looks fine, except that during masking or at the first touch of tweezers the layer peels off in one piece. The procedure is simple and should not be skipped: scrub the wheels with an old brush in warm water with detergent, rinse thoroughly, let them dry completely and only then apply a thin coat of primer. The mud shield has a broken-up surface, so it pays to prime from two angles, so that no shadow is left uncovered.
Separate the wheels from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw and level the surface on abrasive paper on a flat board. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. The mud shield is exactly the place where deposits collect on the real vehicle, so pigments and muddy effects applied from the top down belong here. Match the hub to the shade of the vehicle and leave the rubber tire a dark gray. If you use a wheel as a stowed spare, give it cleaner weathering than the running gear; it reads logically that way.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package.
