Injection-molded plastic kit of the modern Japanese guided-missile destroyer JMSDF DDG-177 Atago in 1:350 scale from Trumpeter. The model can be built either as a waterline or as a full-hull version (a display stand with a nameplate is included), and it is rounded out by photo-etched parts and helicopters molded in clear plastic. For the exact contents, follow the enclosed instructions.
The Atago is the lead ship of the class of the same name of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system. She is a large, modern vessel with a powerful radar, vertical launch systems for guided missiles and a flight deck for anti-submarine helicopters. She serves for the air defense of the task force and for anti-submarine warfare.
Decide in advance on the waterline or the full-hull version on the stand. Glue with thin cement for plastic; fit the fine photo-etched parts (radars, railings) with cyanoacrylate glue at the end. Leave the helicopters separate for painting and mask the clear plastic of their canopies. A modern naval gray, bold deck markings and restrained washes in the joints without overdone weathering suit a convincing look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
