Eduard 1:350 railings for the heavy cruiser Tone

This is a photo-etched detail accessory, not a ship model. The set holds brass railings shaped exactly to the deck outlines of the Japanese heavy cruiser Tone in 1:350 scale. It replaces the heavily oversized plastic railings of the basic kit and greatly increases the realism of the finished ship. The model itself, glue and paints are not included.

The real subject

Tone was the lead ship of the class of Japanese heavy cruisers of the same name from the Second World War. She was marked by an unconventional arrangement with all the main gun armament concentrated in the forward part and the stern given over to reconnaissance floatplanes. The ship took part in a number of operations in the Pacific, including the Battle of Midway.

Use and tips

• Separate the parts from the fret carefully with a sharp knife for photo-etched sets.
• Shape the bends with a bending tool or two rulers for clean corners.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate) applied in a minimal amount.
• Before painting we suggest degreasing the brass and spraying it with a base primer.
