A multimedia detail set in 1:350 scale from the Polish brand MASTER. According to the name it holds six complete quadruple mounts for the Bofors anti-aircraft gun of 40 mm caliber with a barrel length of 56 calibers, together with the Mk-51 director, and it is made up of resin, photo-etched and turned metal parts. This is not a ship kit but a set with which the simplified plastic mounts on a model of an American warship are replaced.
A quadruple Bofors is an exceptionally demanding part in 1:350 scale: four thin barrels side by side, an openwork mount, the crew seats and the director standing beside it. Injection-molded plastic manages it only as a rough block with the barrels suggested. The combination of three technologies handles each part with what it does best: resin casts the bulky shapes of the mount with undercut details, photo-etch gives the thin openwork surfaces and shields, and turned metal gives straight barrels with a real bore and a constant spacing. The six pieces in the box cover the larger part of the light anti-aircraft armament of one model.
First wash the mold release agent off the resin parts and cut the casting blocks off with a saw, not by snapping them. Bend the photo-etched parts over a straight edge, ideally in an etch bender; small surfaces are better painted on the fret and cut off only just before gluing. Set the barrels dry and check whether all four point the same way; this is the detail the eye notices first on a finished ship. Glue with super glue applied on the tip of a needle, and on larger joints with epoxy. Degrease and prime the whole assembly in one go, so that the resin, the etch and the metal all get the same base and the shade matches. Fit the mounts on the deck only after the ship has been painted and weathered.
The set is supplied unpainted. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
