The real subject

The Convair F-106 Delta Dart was an American interceptor, that is a machine whose task was to scramble and catch an intruder as early as possible. Its shape matched that: a large delta wing with no horizontal tail surfaces and a slim fuselage with a sharp nose. It carried its armament not on pylons under the wing but in an internal weapons bay in the fuselage, so that it did not disturb the airflow. The aircraft was part of an elaborate air defense system in which ground stations guided it to the target, and it stayed in service for an unusually long time.

Building and painting tips

Before you reach for the glue, compare the parts from the set with the parts of the kit dry. Add-on sets are usually made for a particular kit and on another one will call for sanding the mating faces. Cut away the excess material with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the shape is not spoiled. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts given in the instructions: cement for polystyrene holds only on polystyrene, and with other materials cyanoacrylate is used. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts. Finish and paint the parts that will end up inside the assembly before you close it up.
