An injection-molded plastic kit of the captured Soviet KV-2 heavy tank in German service, under the designation Pz.Kpfw. KV-2 754(r), in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures the massive machine with its tall turret and 152 mm howitzer, this time in the equipment and markings of the German army. The package contains photo-etched parts, copper wire for the tow cables and decals with German markings; check the particular contents against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
During the fighting of 1941 the Germans captured a number of Soviet KV-2 tanks and took some of them into their own service under a designation with the suffix (r), for russisch. The captured machines received German markings, crosses and sometimes modified equipment; they were used above all for training, for patrol duty or locally at the front, for as long as the spare parts lasted. Even in German hands the KV-2 was a remarkably heavily armored machine with a devastating 152 mm howitzer.
Assemble and paint the running gear before you close up the hull. The kit uses link-and-length tracks, which allow a natural sag; pay attention to joining them cleanly. Glue with thin cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. German service is typified by gray or the later three-color camouflage; complete the weathering with washes and pigments for mud effects.
