The Gloster E28/39 was the first British aircraft powered by a jet engine. It first flew in May 1941, and its task was not to fight but to prove that Frank Whittle's jet engine could keep a real machine in the air. It was a small single-seat aircraft with a nose landing gear, with the engine housed in the fuselage and the air intake in the nose. The nickname Pioneer captures its role better than the dry official designation taken from the specification.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and printed instructions guide the build. Read the instructions through before the first cut and lay out the order of the work, because the cockpit has to be painted before the fuselage halves are joined.
The aircraft is small even in 1:48 scale, so every irregularity in the surface shows on the finished model. Fill the fuselage joints with filler, therefore, and sand them smooth with fine paper. Because of the nose landing gear, put weight into the forward part of the fuselage, or the model will sit back on its tail. Mask the cockpit glazing before spraying and lay the paint on in thin coats, so that the fine surface detail is preserved.
The set is for modelers who enjoy milestones of aviation and early jet machines, and for collectors of prototypes. Thanks to its dimensions the finished model fits even into a full display cabinet. Ordinary modeling tools are enough for the build - sprue cutters, a file, sandpaper and cement for plastic. Paints, glue, filler and accessory sets are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
