With this accessory Reskit offers a resin replacement for the wheels of a model of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but parts that are fitted in place of the original plastic wheels. The Type 2 designation in the name distinguishes a particular form of wheel within the range, because on this type wheels with a different tread pattern appeared in service. Before buying it is therefore worth comparing the pattern in the photograph with images of the machine you are building.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is an American twin-engine fighter with its characteristic twin-boom layout and a central nacelle for the pilot and the armament. It was powered by a pair of liquid-cooled V12 engines with turbochargers, thanks to which the machine held its performance even at great altitude. The aircraft had nosewheel landing gear, an arrangement still unusual when it appeared, and it was used in a wide range of roles from fighting through reconnaissance to escorting bomber formations.
Separate the wheels from the casting block with a fine-toothed saw and level the contact surface on abrasive paper laid on glass or another flat board. On a twin-boom aircraft both main wheels are in one plane, and an angled stance is immediately apparent on a finished model. Wash the set in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let it dry. Resin is glued with cyanoacrylate, never with cement for plastic. Start the painting with a primer, then spray the tire shade over the whole wheel and finally deal with the hub separately. Dry pigment on the lower part of the tread adds the impression of the machine's weight.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
