A radial powerplant for the Westland Lysander Mk.I and Mk.III in 1:48 scale. A detail for the exposed front end from Mini Craft Collection. Intended for the Airfix kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mini Craft Collection offers a replacement powerplant for the British liaison aircraft Lysander in the Mk.I and Mk.III versions. On the real aircraft the engine is clearly visible from the front, so working it up raises the level of the whole nose. The airframe of the model is sold separately. The target kit is the Airfix one.
The Lysander was a high-wing aircraft with a short takeoff, tall fixed landing gear and an unusual wing silhouette. At first it served for cooperation with the ground forces, for correcting fire and for dropping supplies, but over France in 1940 it proved an easy target. It found a second life in the black-painted machines of No. 161 Squadron, which landed at night in meadows in occupied Europe and carried agents and mail. The Mk.I was powered by a Bristol Mercury unit, and the Mk.III by a more powerful counterpart of it.
Leave the cylinders in a dark gray to black with a hint of metallic sheen along the fins, and set the heads apart in a lighter tone, otherwise they will merge into one solid mass. It pays to bring out the pushrods and the cables at the front, because those are what is visible in the opening of the cowling. Finally add a fine oily tint to the lower cylinders, where oil runs down on radial engines.
Neither paints nor glue are in the package.
